Pearl Jam - PJ20 Soundtrack on Vinyl, the Pre-sale Is Up!
Just when you thought all the rumors were total horse shit, behold; PJ20 on glorious vinyl! The release date of December 13, 2011 has been confirmed! I first caught wind of a pre-sale over at elusive disc but balked when I saw the $79.99 price tag. It was just a matter of time before this beauty appeard at Amazon. Well, that time has come.... and it's currently listed here for only $59.15!!! I love the mom & pops as much as the next guy but when you can save a whopping $20 and get free shipping and zero taxes to boot, how can you resist?
The soundtrack to the acclaimed documentary will be issued as a limited-edition triple 180-gram vinyl, pressed at RTI. The package comes with a 20-page full-color 12" x 12" booklet (with introduction by director Cameron Crowe), and each LP is housed in a full-color inner sleeve with stills from the film. The jacket is a rare double-gatefold sleeve, filled with hundreds of images from throughout the band's career.
This appears to be an EU release and only available in the U.S. as in import. Weird. Whether or not TenClub releases a ultra-limited version in the U.S. is still yet to be seen.

Jimmy Page to Re-release Death Wish II Soundtrack on Ltd. Ed. Vinyl!
To mark today’s 30th anniversary, JimmyPage.com will be re-releasing a special, limited, re-mastered vinyl edition of the soundtrack to Michael Winner's Death Wish II, featuring a previously unreleased instrumental version of the Death Wish main title and new liner notes written by Jimmy Page.
Explaining the release of the album, Jimmy said: “In 1981, Michael Winner asked me if I would compose the soundtrack to Death Wish II. The songs with vocals were only going to appear in the film for a matter of seconds but I had recorded full versions of them anyway - which is how I ended up doing my first soundtrack and soundtrack album. I’ve re-released this because I wanted it to be available again.”

Ryan Adams - The Love Is Hell Mystery
Way back in February Lost Highway issued a press release that highlighted details of their upcoming 10th anniversary vinyl reissue project on limited edition clear vinyl. It was to kick-off with the re-releases of Ryan Adam's critically acclaimed LP Gold and the T-Bone Burnett produced Soundtrack to O Brother Where Art Thou.
It was further reported by Vinyl Hounds and others (as it was confirmed on Lost Highway's website) that Ryan's 2004 double 10" EP, Love is Hell, was also to be celebrated with a clear vinyl reissue on September 13th, 2011. Well, the anticipation has been killing me recently so, I went back to Lost Highway's website to check on the release status only to discover the EP has mysteriously vanished from the list of anniversary reissues! No, it's not listed as "delayed"; not listed as "rescheduled"; not even listed as "cancelled" - just gone.
I always feared this was too good to be true. Can anyone shed a little light on this little shocker? Please comment.

Joe Henry - Watch the Trailer for the Forthcoming LP, Reverie!
Get to know him. Seriously. Do it.
Producer and Grammy-winning musician Joe Henry is releasing Reverie on October 11 via Anti- Records. If you're digging on the acoustic stylings of A.A. Bondy, Bon Iver, and the like, well then Joe's your guy.
“This album speaks about time. The great river that reminds us we are buoyant after all, as its moving current lifts us by the chin and just off of the balls of our feet, while we strain to dig our toes into the sandy ground,” Joe says. “I am not convinced that any song exists without some knowing nod in its direction. And so with Reverie I am nodding, then –to time, but also to all the love, hope, despair, and revelation that stands naked inside its weather."
NPR recently premiered Reverie’s “Odetta” on All Songs Considered. It’s a somewhat spiritual track that embraces the subject of mortality and refers to political folk singer Odetta. Listen here.
Watch the premiere of the trailer for Reverie, and check out the track listing, below.

Jagjaguwar To Reissue Dinosaur Jr.'s First Three LPs on Vinyl!
Who's stoked? Me is! Here are the details as lifted from Jagjaguwar's website...
By now you know the story: J Mascis, Lou Barlow, & Patrick “Murph” Murphy, meet in Amherst, MA. J, Lou & Murph start a band. Said band goes on to rip through the musical landscape and prove to be the genesis of the “alternative rock” archetype.
Over the last 25+ years, Dinosaur Jr. have influenced a countless number of bands, both peers and protégés, by wailing their classic union of melodic bass, seething drums, virtuosic guitar shredding and listless vocal delivery through the iconic Marshall stacks.
Jagjaguwar is honored to reissue the band’s first three albums on vinyl, Dinosaur, You’re Living All Over Me and Bug, on October 4th, 2011. Originally released on the venerable Homestead and SST labels in the 1980’s, the reissues stay true to form and include the cardinal track lists.
Dinosaur Jr. recently completed a sold-out tour playing Bug in its entirety, and the acclaimed 33 1/3 book series by Continuum released Nick Attfield’s book about You’re Living All Over Me this summer.

Girls - Father, Son, Holy Ghost Pre-order!
I just heard the new Girls tune, "Vomit", off of the forthcoming LP Father, Son, Holy Ghost, and I'm convinced. I want this album (not THAT Album, their debut LP but THIS album, their new one.) Confused yet? Me, too. One thing I am sure about; don't go trying to google "girls vomit" to locate their new jam. Trust me on that. Instead, I embedded it below for your listening pleasure. Take it to the one-minute mark; is that a fuckin' Hammond organ? Oh, yeah! How about the solo at 2:20; ain't that some righteous fuzzbox?!? And make sure to play it through to end! You'll dig the soaring "Pink Floydian" backing vocal.
The new LP hits on 9/13 via True Panther. You can pre-order over at Insound. If you're quick enough, you'll score a very nice exclusive poster designed by Christopher Owens!

Loney Dear - Pre-order Hall Music on Cyan Vinyl Limited to 300 Copies!
Swedish singer-songwriter Emil Svanangen, aka Loney Dear, releases Hall Music on October 4th and according to a press release, the 11-track album is about 30 minutes long and features the Swede exploring sounds that are "orchestral and synthesized; organic and invented." What the hell does that mean?!?
I really have dug everything Loney Dear has released until this point but I'm not sure about this one just yet. I'm passing the pre-sale info on, however, because there is a limited edition Cyan Vinyl limited to 300 copies. Get it at Polyvinyl. Check out the first single below. Review: Buffalo Killers - 3
Buffalo Killers - Circle Day by alivenaturalsound
Buffalo Killers – 3 (2011, Alive Records)
Buffalo Killers – 3 (2011, Alive Records)
Typically, you’ll find features on this blog about established artists with a solid following. The fact the people have an interest in an artist or a band is exactly why I post to this blog - hip you to what you want to know, right? So as not to miss out on that rare limited edition chocolate swirl vinyl that will get gobbled up the instant it hits the street or, given the current trend for pre-orders, sold out before its even pressed! That’s why you’re here, right?
Well, this is a feature unlike any other I’ve dished out. I feel duty-bound to throw something new at you because it needs sayin’, it’s these bearded, denim-clad souls that call themselves the Buffalo Killers. They kill all right. They’re a rock trio from Cincinnati, Ohio but they lay down some hazy, fuzzed out bits of psychedelic sunshine that spill straight from the hills of Southern California circa 1972. The band consists of brothers, Zach and Andy Gabbard, and drummer, Joey Sebaali.

Lissie - Little Lovin'
Sure, it's gratuitous. And it's a sell-out. Not to mention deliberate and calculated. But, fuck it, who cares! It's all about getting your music out there – consumed… digested… and shat out for further consumption. I say good for her!
So, what’s all this I’m blabbering about? Well, Lissie, one of my favorite artists of the last twelve months or so, has teamed up with American Eagle to film a video/long-ass-commercial for her song “Little Lovin’” The song is UH-mazing and deserving of any brazen exposure it can get.
So, here I am, throwing it up for a few more eyeballs (and ears) to enjoy. If you’re not familiar with Lissie, I strongly suggest you bathe yourself in her music ‘til it’s soaked through your skin and entered your bloodstream. Enjoy.

The War On Drugs - Slave Ambient Pre-order Is Up: first 75 Get It On Red Vinyl
From the Secretly Canadian Website:
The War On Drugs’ sprawling Slave Ambient is out August 16 on Secretly Canadian. Following the release of the instant classic “Baby Missiles” we now share with you the album’s centerpiece “Come to the City” in which head honcho Adam Granduciel takes the show to the next level. It’s a modern American outsider classic; a straight-up jam. All goosebumps and fist pumps; and Granduciel howling and moaning over his epic, phased Firebird guitars.
“Come to the City” also happens to include what very well may be my favorite The War on Drugs lyric: “Drinking up all the sweet tea/It was made/Just for me.” CLAZZIG.
Slave Ambient is also now available for pre-order, the first 75 vinyl orders of which will receive the limited-run oh-so-fancy ruby red LP version of the record (see the sweet pic below). There are also several great War on Drugs catalogue bundle deals. Get it all HERE.

If you live in Detroit, You may want to check this out!
The collaboration between Detroiters Black Milk and Jack White has come become reality with two new tracks that surfaced online this week.
Milk posted the tracks on his blog, calling the work with White "one of the greatest moments in my career." Now based in Nashville, White called on Milk to perform a live show at his Third Man Records; an album with those live recordings is still in the works.
"Brain" and "Royal Mega" are the first two tastes of what's to come from the collaboration. It's available on iTunes and at Milk's online store, and 100 (that's right, just 100) limited edition vinyl copies will be available at People's Records in Detroit on Friday.

Am I The Only One Who's Pissed Off About Radiohead's New Caribou/Jacques Greene remix being 15 fuckin' dollars?
$15.99, actually, at my shop. Really, what in the hell? It's a 12" single! It shouldn't cost that much for a full length, honestly (but that's a whole other story). I thought it was just the majors gauging away at us vinyl lovers but, reality is they're all doing it now, indies included.

Best of 2011, So Far - Vinyl Hounds' Top 28!
Everyone else is doing it, why not me? I mean, really, why not? The one thing I've gleaned from all those other "best of" lists is that everyone's stroking the same bands (you know who they are). I feel like I'm being force fed a steady dose of blogosphere hype. Seems more like a popularity contest, if you ask me. So, fuck all them, here's my list.
Well, if you've been a follower of this blog for little bit, you probably have a good feel for my taste (or lack thereof) and might have an idea of what's to follow. If not, I hope I can enlighten you to some truly amazing music. It's been a good year, so far, if you ask me, and I'm looking forward to what's yet to come. So, here's my top 28. Yeah, 28, you got a problem with that?

My Morning Jacket - Circuital Deluxe Ltd. Green Vinyl Recall - ATO Issues Statement
Note: At the request of ATO records, I promised not to comment on this situation until the label and band had a chance to issue an official statement. I agreed.
So, if you were one of the many folks who purchased the Circuital Deluxe Vinyl Box Set, you've probably noticed by now that your limited edition green vinyl is virtually unplayable due to severe warpage of one or both of the vinyl discs. If they aren’t, consider yourself lucky.
When I first received my box set, I eagerly placed the first disc on the turntable and let it spin. And boy was I startled by the loud, abrasive noise that followed when my stylus was launched from the groove and sent bouncing across the first track. After snapping my head round to see wtf, I immediately noticed the severe warpage and instantly lifted the needle from the record.

The National Cherry Tree EP Vinyl Pre-order Is Now Live!
Last summer, Brassland reissued The National‘s first two albums — their 2001 self-titled debut and 2003′s Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers — on vinyl. On June 28th, the label, which was co-founded by the band’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner, will do the same to the 2004 EP Cherry Tree.
The reissue, due for release on June 28th, will be limited to 3,000 copies, 500 of which will be pressed on a special edition red vinyl. The other 2,500 copies will be pressed on black vinyl.
According to Brassland, the red vinyl will be exclusively available via the label’s online store. Also, both the red and black editions will contain the third part of the triptych poster that was packaged in last year’s pressings of the first and second record. Below, you can stream a track off Cherry Tree in the form of “About Today” (via Brassland’s Bandcamp).
Brassland also tells us that there are plans for a box set featuring the vinyl reissues of the self-titled debut, Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, and Cherry Tree, though nothing is official. In the meantime, the label will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with a series of upcoming giveaways, so it’d be a good idea to bookmark their website, Twitter, and Facebook.

I've been waiting for this for some time now. The supergroup (I hate that word) of Islands’ Nick Thorburn, Man Man’s Honus Honus, and former Modest Mouse drummer Joe Plummer return to the public eye this August with the release of their debut full-length. Titled Out Of Love, the twelve-track collection will hit the streets on August 16th via Sub Pop. I can't wait! Here's the teaser and a tune...

Black Lips “Arabia Mountain” LP + 7″ Preorder!
So, initially, I didn't post about this pre-order because I thought "Oh, another Black Lips record, whatever." I just never fell for these guys and felt each LP didn't live up to the hype. So, I was kinda thinking this LP would be more of the same. Their newest, “Arabia Mountain”, finds the band tweaking the original formula ever so slightly; the songs I've heard are catchier and more polished (which may turn off some hardcore fans) thanks partially to the production by Mark Ronson.
If you're looking for more of the same, you may be disappointed. Me, I am really diggin' it. You can preorder the LP on marble vinyl with a bonus 7″ (limited to first 300 orders) for $16.99 at Insound.

The National to reissue Cherry Tree EP on June 28th
The National - About Today
Head nod to CoS for the tip...
By Alex Young
Last summer, Brassland reissued The National‘s first two albums — their 2001 self-titled debut and 2003′s Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers — on vinyl. On June 28th, the label, which was co-founded by the band’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner, will do the same to the 2004 EP Cherry Tree.
Originally released in July 2004, the 7-track effort includes “Reasonable Man (I Don’t Mind)” featuring Padma Newsome of Clogs, plus a live version of “Murder Me Rachael” from France Inter’s Black Sessions.
