Elbow - Rocket Science Mini Documentary

I know, I know, this is supposed to be a blog dedicated to vinyl. True. But I also like to discuss/promote bands that I feel deserve a wider audience. But don't worry, I won't get carried away and start reviewing albums or spreading useless gossip. Lord knows, the web is flooded with that witless material.

Okay, all that aside, here's one of those non-vinyl posts.  But if you do like vinyl, go buy Elbow's new album here.

Simply put, Elbow. Enjoy.

Wilco To Release New 7", First On Their New Label

According to the bands FB page, Wilco will be releasing a new 7" single on their very own dBpm Records label. See their post below...

News flash: New Wilco 7" single for sale at the Solid Sound Festival this June. The A-side is a new Wilco tune called "I Might" and it's b/w a cover of the Nick Lowe-penned "I Love My Label." This will be the first release on dBpm Records and will be available to the rest of the world sometime in July. More recording news to come very, very soon. Standby.

Gummy Skulls!

You heard all about them. Now you can see them! And Wayne. Delivering them. I don't know about you but, if I paid $150 for one of these, I'm not sure I'd hack into it with a knife.

Foo Fighters Include Piece of Original Master Tape in Copies of Wasting Light

Hat tip to antiquiet...

The Foo Fighters‘ new album Wasting Light (out today) hardly looks like a 21st-century album release. The groovy multicolored cover art looks like it would be more at home in a disco, and a sticker on the front proudly states that it was “Recorded Entirely On Analog Tape In Dave’s Garage.”

As if to emphasize the oddity, copies of Wasting Light are also packaged with a piece of the actual master tape. Yes, really — the album’s master has been sliced into “a million fucking pieces,” according to Dave Grohl, and redistributed to the masses.

Another Vinyl Pre-Order Goes Live! The Beastie Boys "Hot Sauce Committee Part Two"

"Good people, please note, not unlike birthing a baby, or baking a batch of cookies, or picking grapes for wine, sometimes things need just a little bit more time to cook to come out just so. So our deluxe vinyl's maturity date will be slightly different then the other formats. But please know that our corps. of engineers and experts have been on this, making sure the wait is worth it and that I can personally tell you that in my humble opinion, the test pressing of the vinyl sounded banging on my home hi fi." - Mike D

My Morning Jacket to release exclusive single for Record Store Day - KY ONLY!

Via CoS...

Although Circuital won’t hit shelves for another two months, My Morning Jacket is giving fans from Kentucky a reason to celebrate the band’s home state. According to You Ain’t No Picasso, the Louisville natives will mark this year’s Record Store Day (April 16th) by releasing a 12″ single to a handful of Kentucky record stores — two to be exact. Featuring the title track off the band’s forthcoming album, the white-label, one-track single will be limited to 600 copies and is set for release at Lexington’s CD Central and Louisville’s Ear X-Tacy.

For those of us not in Kentucky, My Morning Jacket will also be reissuing three studio albums for Record Store Day. The band’s three most recent releases — 2003′s It Still Moves, 2005′s Z, and 2008′s Evil Urges — will be re-released on 2×12″ picture discs. While each release will be limited to 500 copies, they will be distributed to record stores across the country.

Finally! Vinyl Art That's Worth Writing About!

Not your run-of-the-mill chip bowl or wall clock, artists Angelo Bramanti and Giuseppe Siracusa made this marvelous sculpture from vinyl records. Wouldn’t it be cool to see portraits of musicians melted into their own records? Looking around the artists’ website, it would appear that they’re fond of using old media storage formats to create works of art, such the skyline of Syracuse rendered in VHS cassettes.
